As Ivan and I travel around to many BNI regions all over the world, we are constantly amazed at how philanthropic our members are. I guess it should come as no surprise that business professionals who are drawn to an organization whose philosophy is Givers Gain® would be givers themselves.

We want to shine the spotlight from time to time on these members and tell you a little bit more about what they are doing that is having an impact on their own communities. Our first spotlight member is Jay Bell, a financial adviser for Northwestern Mutual in Maryland and member of the Baltimore B Chapter of BNI.

Imagine our great surprise and excitement when Jonathan Morgan Jenkins of Performance Production Services, a BNI member of the Platinum Coast Chapter in Orange County, CA, approached Ivan and me last year with his intention to do a special project for the BNI Foundation. Jonathan shared with us that he chooses one charity each year for which to do a feature film. Jonathan’s gift for bringing out the best of a company through video production has benefited numerous non-profit organizations. Now it is benefiting BNI’s non-profit!

We are making plans to hold the Second Annual Chocolates and Cha-Cha party for the BNI Foundation on February 8, 2014 to close out International Networking Week. This year there were two locations holding the Chocolates and Cha-Cha party, headquarters and Central Texas. Next year we hope that we can make this fun party a worldwide event!

Our hearts are broken with all those who have lost so much in Moore, OK. We have heard from BNI ED, Chesca Bailey, who says the following: “Thank you for your prayers for all the people in the Moore, Oklahoma area. We have heard of one member losing everything, and a number of others with relatives displaced. Your support is greatly appreciated, as it is truly unbelievable the devastation.”

Beth and Ivan Misner will present INJAZ UAE, the JA (Junior Achievement) partner, with a $1000 Givers Gain® Grant at the Networking Like a Pro Live Event in Dubai June 4,2013 at the Address Hotel, Dubai Marina. The program for the public is from 12pm to 5pm and the presentation to INJAZ will take place at 2pm after the luncheon.

At the US National BNI Directors’ Conference, the BNI Directors supported our charitable work and donated over $1800 to our charitable work. Ivan and I promised to match the donations which came in at the conference, so that brought our total raised to just over $3600. THEN on Sunday morning, Andrea and Mark Stough of BNI SW FL had a group dance card with Dr. Misner. Their young son, Brendon, gave a cash donation of $50 to the BNI Foundation!

I recently interviewed Jonathan Jenkins, member of BNI Platinum Coast Chapter in Lake Forest, CA, and immediate past Education Coordinator. Last year he filmed all his chapter members’ presentations and made them available, branded with their company’s material, at no cost to them! He is a real giver and he has the distinction of being the first BNI member to support the BNI Foundation with monthly contributions in our Super Hero program.
